The City of Walnut obtained its name from the Rancho Los Nogales Mexican land Grant, nogales being the Spanish word for “walnut”. With exception to some busy intersections, the hilly and affluent city is relatively more quiet in comparison to nearby neighbors such as Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights, or West Covina.
Walnut also was ranked as #70 in the United States in 2009 and #57 in 2011 by Money’s Best Place to Live, “America’s best small towns”. These rankings are also the highest ranked California city for both year.
Walnut is also the home for Mt. San Antonio Community college that hosts 40,525 credit students (2008-2009)
